Samson Siasia becomes New Super Eagles coach
Former Super Eagles striker, Samson Siasia, has been re-appointed coach of the team.
Siasia was appointed Friday as replacement for his former colleague, Sunday Oliseh, who resigned hours earlier.
Siasia will work with respected tactician Salisu Yusuf, FIFA U-17 World Cup – winner Emmanuel Amuneke and Alloy Agu for the upcoming 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Egypt, thenff.com, the official website of the Nigeria Football Federation, reported Friday.
Siasia worked as Super Eagles’ Head Coach between December 2010 and October 2011, before his contract was terminated following the team’s failure to qualify for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
Amuneke led the Nigeria U-17 male to a fifth FIFA World Cup title in Chile in 2015.
Salisu Yusuf and Alloy Agu were in the immediate past crew led by Oliseh.
Sunday Oliseh: shocking resignation
Sunday Oliseh has thrown more light on the series of events that led to his resignation.
The former Super Eagles coach made public his resignation in the early hours of Friday via Twitter.
In his Twitter message Oliseh said he was quitting, “Due to contract violations, lack of support, unpaid wages, benefits to my players, assistant coaches and myself, I resign as Super Eagles chief coach. I feel fortunate, blessed and eternally grateful for having had the honour to play, captain and coach this great nation of ours, Nigeria.”

In a letter the 41-year-old wrote to the NFF subsequently, he gave a few more details:
“Due to incessant Violations of our signed agreement (Contract) I am hereby informing you of my decision to terminate our working collaboration signed in July 2015.
“The most important objective is for the Super Eagles Of Nigeria to qualify to the next AFCON and the World Cup 2018.
“Since so little help is being rendered me in getting the players to give their best and very vital conditions and advantages to the team play are also being sacrificed coupled with non-redress of the aforementioned despite my several e-mails and others, seeking your aid to effectively carry out my duties were ignored.
“These unconducive working conditions that my coaching crew and myself have to live with, your contractual violations and the interest of the nation necessitates that I tender my resignation and recourse to the termination of our working agreement,” he concluded.
With top officials of the NFF attending the Fifa Elections in Zurich, it is not yet known who they will select as coach ahead of next month’s qualifiers.
Oliseh was a former captain of the Nigerian national team and won the 1994 Afcon as well as Olympic gold in 1996.
He was appointed replacement for Stephen Keshi in July 2015 despite not having coached a top team previously.
Gianni Infantino New Fifa presidential
Gianni Infantino has succeeded fellow Swiss Sepp Blatter as president of world football's governing body Fifa.
The Uefa secretary general polled 115 votes, 27 more than closest rival Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim al-Khalifa.
Prince Ali bin al-Hussein (four votes) and Jerome Champagne (0) were third and fourth respectively.
Blatter, who had led Fifa since 1998, stood down last year and was latersuspended from football for six years for breaching ethics guidelines.
Infantino is a 45-year-old lawyer from Brig in the Valais region of Switzerland, less than six miles from Blatter's home town of Visp.
He entered the presidential race when it became clear that Michel Platini, boss of European football's governing body Uefa, could not stand.
"I will work tirelessly to bring football back to Fifa and Fifa back to football," he said. "This is what we want to do."
He added: "I feel a lot of emotion and have not realised yet what has happened today. It is still very fresh and it's been a long and exciting journey and I probably need some time to chill out and see what has happened."
The election was due to be fought between five candidates, but South African Tokyo Sexwale withdrew before voting began in Zurich.
The first round of voting failed to determine an outright winner, though Infantino led with 88, three more than pre-vote favourite Sheikh Salman.
A simple majority of more than 50% - 104 of 207 available votes - was sufficient for victory in round two.
Not since 1974, when Joao Havelange of Brazil beat 13-year incumbent Stanley Rous of England, has a second round been needed.
An emotional Infantino told delegates that together they would "restore the image of Fifa and the respect of Fifa".
He added: "I want to work with all of you together in order to restore and rebuild a new era of Fifa where we can again put football at the centre of the stage.
"Fifa has gone through sad times, moments of crisis, but those times are over. We need to implement the reform and implement good governance and transparency. We also need to have respect.
"We're going to win back this respect through hard work, commitment and we're going to make sure we can finally focus on this wonderful game."
Gary Lineker, an outspoken critic of Fifa and former president Blatter, wished Infantino "all the best" following his appointment.
The former England striker added on Twitter: "He's got one hell of a job on his hands but seems a decent chap. Needs a sizeable new broom."
The television presenter then joked: "Have this weird feeling that Gianni Infantino will pull off his mask to reveal Sepp Blatter."
Portuguese great Luis Figo added his congratulations, tweeting: "Finally the change arrived. It's time for a new era in Fifa."
English Football Association chairman Greg Dyke said: "He is not a politician and he is not an ego. Fifa has been dominated by egos for a very long time. He is the type of person who will just get on with the job."
Russian sports minister Vitaly Mutko said: "I am happy. We supported him from the start. World football needs such a pragmatist."
German football federation interim president Rainer Koch said: "We are happy and relieved with Gianni Infantino's victory and the fact that European football will continue to have a strong influence."
Norway's Karen Espelund, a member of Uefa's executive committee, added: "We needed someone credible, we needed a clean winner, a clean man. I believe we have that in Gianni."
International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach said he was looking forward to working with Infantino for "the sake of sport".
US Soccer president Sunil Gulati tweeted: "Congratulations. We look forward to working together to embrace reform and good governance."
Beaten opponent Sheikh Salman said that the Asian Football Confederation would look forward to working with the new-look Fifa and its president to reform world football's governing body and to "reinstate football's credibility globally".
Barcelona 2 : 0 Arsenal: Messi nets two big away goals
Barcelona, the Champions League favorites, stormed into London and beat the Arsenal 2-0 on Tuesday in their Round of 16 first leg tie, as Lionel Messi scored twice. Entering the match, Messi had never scored against Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech, formerly of Chelsea. And while it took a while, Messi managed to do it twice in a span of 12 minutes in the second half, as his goalless streak against the shot-stopper ended at 544 minutes.
With Arsenal looking sharp early on and creating some chances, Barcelona lacked its normal flair for much of the match. But after the break, the club really got going. Luis Suarez sent Neymar through before the Brazilian found Messi open in front of goal for the opener 71 minutes in.
Then, after Messi won a penalty kick, he put it away calmly to the Cech's right.
With the result, Barca can taste the quarterfinals. Though Arsenal is a good team with the potential to score plenty of goals, going to the Camp Nou down 0-2 and asking for a comeback may just be something this team isn't capable of.

NFF orders Oliseh to appear before Technical Committee
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has ordered Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, to appear before its technical committee on Friday, to defend his call-ups for next month’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Egypt.
Oliseh will also be grilled on his game plan for the double header against the North Africans.
Nigeria will host group leaders Egypt on March 25 in Kaduna, before travelling for the reverse fixture in Cairo two days later.
The Eagles training camp is expected to open in two weeks times, with Oliseh working with players from the domestic league.
He had planned to monitor some of the country’s stars in European Leagues, but the NFF is yet to approve it.

Five things we learnt from Chelsea’s 5-1 FA Cup win against Manchester City
Chelsea thumped a severely weakened Manchester City side yesterday to set up a sixth-round clash against Everton at Goodison Park.
Although this was clearly a game of men against boys, there are still several things Blues fans can learn from the victory.
1) The scoreline did not flatter Chelsea
Not all big wins are the same: it was 1-1 at half-time, remember. Sometimes, the game can be tight and a single event can lead to a collapse, but this did not happen on Sunday.
Oscar missed a penalty, Pedro hit the post and there were countless other opportunities, including tight offside calls that could have seen the Blues add a couple more to the tally.
Chelsea dominated for the entire game.
2) Chelsea are in it to win it
Chelsea gave Manchester City the same treatment that they gave Milton Keynes Dons in the fourth round.
Whilst Manuel Pellegrini named a weakened team, there can be no doubting the resolve of Guus Hiddink’s side, who are determined to win this competition.
They looked solid from the kick-off and City even followed the MK Dons pattern by equalising almost immediately. There was never really any doubt what the result was going to be.
3) Bertrand Traore is seizing his chances
Starting the season as fourth-choice striker, Traore has had to bide his time, but injuries and poor form have seen him become the back-up to Diego Costa.
Although his appearances have been limited to cameos, he has taken full advantage.
He has three goals to his name, an impressive return that has impressed Chelsea fans, who are longing for young talent to grab their limited opportunities.
4) Chelsea look stronger with Ivanovic in the centre
The injuries to John Terry and Kurt Zouma have seen Branislav Ivanovic back in his natural central defensive position and his performances have picked up.
He has gone from a lost lamb on the right for most of the season to a solid central defender.
This return to form vindicates the club awarding him a new contract and he should be credited for recent performances.
5) Baba Rahman should keep his place
The injuries to Terry and Zouma have also brought Baba Rahman into the team at left back, where he has impressed.
When Terry returns, Hiddink should resist the urge to move Ivanovic to the right and keep Cesar Azpilicueta on his natural wing.
In the last few games, having two natural full backs has added balance to the side. Chelsea should look to maintain this.
